30 days to go Big Summer BBQ 2012

It’s good to see how things evolve and improve over time.  When we started Creating Cambridge in early June 2010 we had some good ideas and hoped they would work out.  We aimed at bringing together people from all networking groups and meet-ups in Cambridge to foster relaxed conversations and networking. No sales pitches but simply getting together, having a drink, a byte to eat and good chat.  We were ambitious, aiming to attract 200 people, and doing something that was never done before.

We strongly believed it was a good idea and assumed all groups would buy into the project. Well we were optimistic, and just a bit more than half of them did.  Nonetheless we managed to achieve a very successful BBQ and started a trend that continued successfully for the next 3 events.

Over the last two years and 4 previous events we have demonstrated we can deliver great events and that all attendees can have a good experience for the great mix of people joining in and for the super relaxed atmosphere.

As we are today at 30 days exactly from the BIG Summer BBQ 2012 we notice how strongly things have improved over time. It took just a few weeks to sell 100 tickets, so  setting the limit of attendees to 200 may actually be a bit on the short side. (We hope!)

One of the key elements of all our events has been the decision to support local charities. This time we have decided to devolve 15% of all sales generated by groups into our designate charity (Emmaus).  The special discount code offered to groups runs out on Sunday 17th June so hurry up as your chance of getting a discounted ticket – and supporting Emmaus – is quickly running out.

Groups supporting our committment to local charity

From the very beginning, we have been strong believers in the Cambridge tech – creative – entrepreneurial community that we belong to. But we have also been committed to helping others in the wider community. Supporting local charities has been an essential part of all our events, since the first one in 2010.

But we could not have gotten where we are without the help of the many groups and networks which have helped us promote our events.

So, this year we have decided to bring these two aspects of Creating Cambridge closer together. We have pledged that 15% of all group ticket sales will be devolved to our named charity (in addition to the usual raffle proceeds). We are grateful that 14 (!!!) groups have already decided to join us and will publicise their support over the coming weeks.

Announcing the BIG Summer BBQ 2012

If you are interested in technology, creativity ideas, bio-tech and friendly networking then come and join us, Creating Cambridge, on Friday 13 July at The Cambridge Blue (the best pub in Cambridge) 85-87 Gwydir Street Cambridge CB1 2LG.

The previous 4 events were  great successes: many of the people who attended asked us to keep organising these events so here we are.

Creating Cambridge, the amazing gift of memory…

Creating Cambridge events are about strengthening the exiting multi-disciplinary community in Cambridge, with many small niche communities, and bring them togetherand we can comfortably say that we are definitely on the right track. We are also confident of the fact that we will achieve that goal soon and then, thanks to the mighty human brain, we will be left with many fun memories of this fantastic journey.

I have always been fascinated by the ability of the human brain to store information and gift us with memories of experiences we had in the past. And whilst it is great to remember pleasant and fun events, often our minds become occupied with all sorts of other information which slowly, wipes some of our memories from our conscious thoughts.

It is also for this reason that Creating Cambridge have teamed up with Nutcracker Digital Productions; they have in fact made a series of videos which can help our busy brains remember the details of what was described as an entertaining, fun, useful and inspiring evening. Cambridge Family Law Practice – A golden Silver sponsor

When we first thought of inviting a family law practice to be one of our Silver Sponsors, we certainly predicted a great outcome as we feel that many people, especially in our fast-paced and hectic society, really welcome expert advice and clear answers when encountering challenges to do with family and parenting and other related legal issues.

It’s a Nutcracker Video!

One of the most rewarding things about organizing networking events is to have the opportunity to watch it all over again on video. This often offers great insights as to how much people enjoyed the event, the look of the venue from a different perspective and also on whether we should hire better looking hosts or whether we are still okay for a year or two.

Thanks to one of our Silver Sponsor, Nutcracker Digital Productions, this year’s video is a professional, crispy and brilliant selection of the important moments of the night. There will be several videos of the Big Christmas Party and they will be released throughout the month of January and February. Shawn Reinson, founder of Nutcracker Digital Productions commented:
