Blue Smile Project is the partner charity for the BIG Summer BBQ 2014

bluesmile-logoWe are very pleased to announce that Blue Smile Project is the partner charity  for the BIG Summer BBQ 2014.  Blue Smile is a Cambridgeshire children’s charity which provides mentoring and counselling in primary schools to help troubled children fulfill their true potential and have happier childhoods. It can quite simply be life-changing. Without specialist support, vulnerable children can go on to develop mental illnesses and anti-social behaviours, which puts huge pressures on local services and costs our community dear. Blue Smile changes that outlook and helps to give children a happier and brighter future… the right of every child.

Once more we will contribute 15% of all tickets sold via groups plus all funds raised from the usual raffle; please come along and help us raise money for Blue Smile Project.

Kathie Neal, head of Fundraising Partnerships for Blue Smile Project commented:  “Blue Smile is really delighted that we are to be the benefiting charity at the Big Summer BBQ this year. We are very grateful for this opportunity to raise awareness of our critical work as well as to be receiving vital donations.”

Tickets are available at Early Bird price until 31 May, buy yours now!

A note from MAGPAS to the BIG Xmas Party 2013

magpasCreating Cambridge was initially created to help cross pollination of networking groups and meetups in Cambridge. As part of our initial purpose within Creating Cambridge we always had the intention to help local charities with some of their good causes. The latest event we run last week, the BIG Xmas Party 2013, had Magpas as charity of choice and it was a great pleasure working with them and helping them to raise some funds for their highly demanding task, a total of £324.60, adding up the sales from the raffle, some private contributions from attendees at the party and the 15% of tickets sold via groups. Antonia Brikell, head of communication for Magpas, commented:

On behalf of Magpas – The Emergency Medical Charity, I would like to thank Luca, Massimo and the rest of the team at Creating Cambridge for choosing to support Magpas – The Emergency Medical Charity once again, at the BIG Xmas Party 2013!

To raise over £300 in one night is brilliant and we very much appreciate everyone’s generosity. We are also immensely grateful to all involved for helping to spread the word about our essential lifesaving service. The funds raised will make a key difference, enabling our charity funded enhanced Doctor and Paramedic teams to carry on attending seriously ill or injured patients by air or by land, in their moment of need. Many thanks again for helping us to save lives in Cambridge, the East of England and beyond. You can always keep up to date with what’s happening at Magpas, by visiting: www.magpas.org.uk

Creating Cambridge BIG thank you for another successful BIG Xmas Party 2013

DSCN3612

Creating Cambridge BIG Xmas Party 2013 was yet another fantastic success! As you may already know, the Creating Cambridge events are two each year: The Creating Cambridge BIG Summer BBQ which is the more relaxed summer event which normally sees 200/250 attendees and the BIG Xmas Party which is the smaller (~120 people) and slightly more formal event. This year’s event at The Pitt Club turned out to be the best BIG Xmas party to date.

What contributed to making it the best one yet include without a doubt:

  • The simply beautiful, exclusive venue which offered a gorgeously elegant set up, brilliant location and state of the art service
  • The amazing support from our Gold Sponsor – Business Weekly. They have demonstrated faith and loyalty and we are very grateful
  • All other sponsors including: Salus Wellness Clinics, Genie Goals, Big Cup Little Cup Nespresso compatible coffee capsules, Kopi, a gourmet coffee subscription
  • Out chosen charity of the year, Magpas for which we managed to raise more than £340
  • The fact that we had plenty of booze and simply delicious food

However, the real success of the Creating Cambridge events, including this last BIG Xmas Party, must be attributed to those who attended the event! Year after year we have seen more and more people attending our events, new faces, friends of familiar faces and the numbers are growing continuously. This year, we have capped the initial number to 100, then ended up selling almost 120 tickets!

Please have a look at a few pictures of the event:

We are already at work planning the Creating Cambridge BIG (VERY BIG) Summer BBQ 2014 and have already booked the venue and are looking to make the food a lot better than it’s ever been… a true feast! Also, we are looking to add a 15 minute dose of pure inspiration and education from one of the most respected personalities in the country, possibly in the world. More on this soon. The date will be announced by the end of January and sponsorships will be available from February giving our partners 5 months of solid coverage. We are confident that we will reach 300+ attendees next summer and we know that we will achieve that thanks to you!

So, after the Creating Cambridge BIG Xmas Party 2013 and before the Creating Cambridge BIG Summer BBQ 2014, Creating Cambridge would like to send out a BIG Thank you to all of you who continuously support us and follow us.

Have a fantastic Christmas and a fabulous start of the new year!

Business Weekly Calls Sponsoring the BIG Summer BBQ 2013 a “Very Wise Move”!

Business Weekly LogoIt has been already been over two months (!!!) from the 2013 edition of the Creating Cambridge BIG Summer BBQ and the spirit is very much still alive! In case you were not aware, we were privileged with the opportunity to have Business Weekly as Gold Sponsor and its CEO, Tony Quested, recently sent us the note below which we are proud to share with you.

Mid-July in the UK and Business Weekly decides to be gold sponsor of a BBQ in Cambridge. A wise move? Very, as it turned out.

While it brings the prospect of branded galoshes and umbrellas into play, such a venture at any stage of an English summer can be wrecked by the gods who like to toy with earthlings. To be greeted by sunshine all the way – matched by wall2wall smiles just as warm from a large gathering of business people and friends – was a bonus.

The organisers of the Creating Cambridge BIG Summer BBQ did Business Weekly and the other sponsors proud with terrific branding and excellent care.

Everywhere one turned there was a potential new friend or contact waiting to touch base. That propensity for networking is what separates Cambridge from a lot of other business clusters in the UK and makes it so much more like Silicon Valley.

Because our website is so highly ranked globally – remarkably so for a B2B publication – we necessarily have to report on a lot of world-leading technology and industrial companies. But we don’t forget our roots. We remain a relatively small SME based in Cambridge that just happens to be influential internationally.

Events like the BIG Summer BBQ allow us all – one man bands to larger SMEs – to show that we share this special, eclectic and electric Cambridge DNA. We mix, we talk – we help each other. Equally importantly, when working hours can be intense, it is important for people to do ‘normal’ things away from the office environment.

We took a large party of leading Cambridge technology executives along. Surprise, surprise they are pleasant, normal, sociable folks who love a glass or two in good company. No airs and graces. Just like you – and you – and me.

So, on behalf of our party and all at Business Weekly, a huge thanks to the Creating Cambridge team for a fabulous night – brilliant venue, great food, terrific atmosphere, lovely people. Must be nearly time for the Christmas barbie!

Tony Quested, CEO Business Weekly

A note from Romsey Mill to the BIG Summer BBQ 2013

RomseyMillLogoCreating Cambridge was initially created to help cross pollination of networking groups and meetups in Cambridge.  As part of our initial purpose within Creating Cambridge we always had the intention to help local charities with some of their good causes.  The latest event we run last week, the BIG Summer BBQ 2013, had Romsey Mill as charity of choice and it was an absolute pleasure working with them and helping them to raise some funds for their highly demanding task, a total of £339.62, adding up the sales from the raffle, some contributions from the free massages offered on site by Salus Wellness and the 15% of tickets sold via groups.  Charity Green, corporate partnership officer for Romsey Mill, commented:

Romsey Mill is so grateful to Creating Cambridge for raising such a generous sum of money at the Big Summer BBQ. It will be used to give second chances, hope and an open door to over 2,600 vulnerable and disadvantaged young people and families. We help individuals who are facing challenges to fulfil their potential, providing opportunities to succeed, develop new skills and feel a sense of belonging. Our goal is to make Cambridge a better place to live, work and learn – for everyone, regardless of their circumstances. Thank you for helping us make that happen!

BIG Summer BBQ 2013, the biggest success to date for Creating Cambridge

Uv6DTd-V6DM9itDM-Cwa6_bToJmDsWBcNc5Bks99VbcYes, we did it again; we set our target very high in terms of delivering an amazing experience to all of our guests and, given the feedback and congratulation messages still coming after 5 days, I would say we managed to exceed expectations, once again.  The weather was surely a bless and being close to our lovely river it helped to inspire an atmosphere that was more about a party one would join during summer holidays rather than a networking event in one of the most important high-tech, bio-tech and academic centres in the world.

The mix of people attending the event was surely the most varied we had to date, mixing some of the finest and most influential entrepreneurs of Cambridge together with academics, professionals, students, owners of small businesses and start-ups.  The message was clear: “go and talk to people, anybody here today is at a networking event and should be speaking to new faces, not just catching up with old friends” and most of our guests welcomed the invite and acted on it throughout the evening.

Considering that the first attendees arrived about half an hour before we started, while the lovely staff from Fort St. George were still setting up the place, and over 20 people were still around well past 11pm when they pub was trying to close down, there is no doubt that the BIG Summer BBQ 2013 was perceived well!

Many people say that networking is not about food but, as many people agreed, if you are charging for food it should be good quality and great value for money; on this aspect the Fort St. George delivered some amazing homemade burgers and other BBQ dishes beautifully presented and served with a nice variety of garnish and side dishes.

So, while in Cambridge we are experiencing temperatures getting close to 30 degrees Celsius, we are already discussing some details of the next event  – the BIG Xmas Party 2013 which we are committed to make the best event yet.

Here some of the pictures of the BIG summer BBQ 2013, a video will follow soon:
